Dangerous goods & prohibited items

Dangerous goods (DG) are articles and substances, which may be hazardous to passengers, crew, aircraft, or the environment. Special regulations are applicable for the transport of these goods. Do not carry the following dangerous articles in checked baggage:

Ø  Briefcases and security type attached cases with installed alarm devices;

Ø  Incorporative lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;

Ø  Explosives, munitions, fireworks, and flares;

Ø  Gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and poisonous), such as camping gas and aerosols;

Ø  Flammable liquids, such as lighter fuels, paints, and thinner;

Ø  Flammable solids, such as matches and articles that are easily ignited, combustible substances, substances that on contact with water emit flammable gases;

Ø  Oxidizing substances, such as bleaching powder and peroxides;

Ø  Poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances;

Ø  Radioactive materials;

Ø  Corrosives (such as mercury which may be contained in thermometers), acids, alkalis and wet-cell batteries;

Ø  Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray, etc. containing an irritant or incapacitating substance;     

Ø  Magnetized materials;

 

Articles that can be carried in the checked baggage in limited quantities:

 

Ø  Hair sprays, perfumes, colognes and medicines containing alcohol;

Ø  Matches;

Ø  Aerosols;

Ø  Alcoholic beverages not exceeding 70% alcohol by volume;

Ø  Avalanche rescue backpack;

Ø  Battery powered wheelchairs/mobility devices;

Ø  Camping stoves and fuel containers;

Ø  Cardiac pacemaker;

Ø  Cigarette lighters;

Ø  Diving lamps;

Ø  Hair curlers containing hydrocarbon gas provided the safety cover is securely fitted over  the heating element;

Ø  Life jacket;

Ø  Lithium ion batteries, an aggregate equivalent lithium content of less than 8 g;

Ø  Medical oxygen;

Ø  Medicinal or toilet articles;

Ø  Mercury thermometers or barometers in a protective case;

Ø  Non-flammable, non toxic gas cylinders;

Ø  Oxygen or air cylinders for medical use;

Ø  Portable medical electronic devices;


Prohibited articles in the cabin baggage:

 For safety reasons, certain articles/ items are prohibited to carry in the cabin baggage.

Guns, firearms and other devices that can cause serious injury if being used;

Ø  Firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns;

Ø  Toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons;

Ø  Component parts of firearms, excluding telescopic sights;

Ø  Compressed air and CO2 guns, such as pistols, rifles and guns;

Ø  Signal flare pistols and starter pistols;

Ø  Harpoon guns and spear guns;

Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge can cause serious injury if being used;

Ø  Razor blades;

Ø  Knives;

Ø  Scissors;

Ø  Swords and daggers;

Ø  Blunt instruments – objects capable of being used to cause serious injury;

Ø  Baseball and softball bats;

Ø  Clubs or batons, such as clubs, blackjacks, and night sticks;

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices.

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:

Ø  Ammunition;

Ø  Blasting caps;

Ø  Detonators and fuses;

Ø  Replica or imitation explosive devices;

Ø  Mines, grenades and other explosive military stores;

Ø  Fireworks and other pyrotechnics;

Ø  Smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges;

 

List of Prohibited Articles

Without prejudice to applicable safety rules, passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles into security restricted areas and on board an aircraft:

(A) Guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles — devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile, including:

Ø  Firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns;

Ø  Toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons;

Ø  Component parts of firearms, excluding telescopic sights;

Ø  Compressed air and CO 2 guns, such as pistols, pellet guns, rifles and ball bearing guns;

Ø  Signal flare pistols and starter pistols;

Ø  Bows, cross bows and arrows;

Ø  Harpoon guns and spear guns;

Ø  Slingshots and catapults;

B) Stunning devices — devices designed specifically to stun or immobilize, including:

Ø  Devices for shocking, such as stun guns, tasers and stun batons;

Ø  Animal stunners and animal killers;

Ø  Disabling and incapacitating chemicals, gases and sprays, such as mace, pepper sprays, capsicum sprays, tear gas, acid sprays and animal repellent sprays;

(C) Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge — objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including:

Ø  Items designed for chopping, such as axes, hatchets and cleavers;

Ø  Ice axes and ice picks;

Ø  Razor blades;

Ø  Box cutters;

Ø  Knives with blades of more than 6 cm;

Ø  Scissors with blades of more than 6 cm as measured from the fulcrum;

Ø  Martial arts equipment with a sharp point or sharp edge;

Ø  Swords and sabers;

D) Workmen’s tools — tools capable of being used either to cause serious injury or to threaten the safety of aircraft, including:

Ø  Crowbars,

Ø  Drills and drill bits, including cordless portable power drills,

Ø  Tools with a blade or a shaft of more than 6 cm capable of use as a weapon, such as screwdrivers and chisels,

Ø  Saws, including cordless portable power saws,

Ø  Blowtorches,

Ø  Bolt guns and nail guns;

(E) Blunt instruments — objects capable of being used to cause serious injury when used to hit, including:

Ø  Baseball and softball bats,

Ø  Clubs and batons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks,

Ø  Martial arts equipment;

(F) Explosives and incendiary substances and devices — explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:

Ø  Ammunition,

Ø  Blasting caps,

Ø  Detonators and fuses,

Ø  Replica or imitation explosive devices,

Ø  Mines, grenades and other explosive military stores,

Ø  Fireworks and other pyrotechnics,

Ø  Smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges,

Ø  Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives.
